Mescal B. Cromer Kirby

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Mescal B. (Cromer) Kirby, 91, of East Bernstadt, Ky., departed this life on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Hillcrest Rehabilitation in Corbin, Ky.

She was born in Laurel County on March 18, 1922 to the late Bud and Eula Cromer.  

She was a member of Hazel Patch Baptist Church.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, Herman Kirby; and two brothers, Walter and Roscoe Cromer.  

Surviving are eight sons, Arvil (Ella Jean), of Hamilton, Ohio, James Dillard (Brenda), of Lockland, Ohio, Dalmas/Dale (Sue), of Somerset, Ky., Gerald (Carol), of Mt. Vernon, Ky., Arlis (Willitta), of East Bernstadt, Ky., William Chester,  of East Bernstadt, Ky., Robert (Sue), of Williamsburg, Ky., and Troy (Beverly), of London, Ky.; one daughter, Wanda (Glenn) Goodin, of London, Ky.  

She was greatly loved by 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.  

She is also survived by six brothers, Edward, Woodrow, George, Denver, John Gobel and Dean Cromer. She will be missed by many family and friends.  

Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m.  Wednesday, May 8 in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Bill Kirby officiating.  

Burial will follow at Phelps Cemetery in Rockcastle County, Ky.

The family of Mescal B. (Cromer) Kirby will receive friends after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 at the funeral home.
