Virgil Wayne Root

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Virgil Wayne Root, 64, departed this life of Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

He was born on July 12, 1949 in Laurel County, Ky., the son of the late Elmon Anderson Root and Stella Overbey Root. 

He was a self-employed excavator operator with Root Brothers Excavating and was affiliated with Weaver Baptist Church.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Root and a grandchild, Damion Root.

He is survived by five children, Bob (Donna) Root of Owensboro, Ky., Mike (Brittany) Root, Scott (Keri) Root, Tracy Danielle Reed and Sarah Root, all of London; five sisters, Barb (Raymond) Lewis, Peggy (Bobby) Taylor, Melba (Carl) Fisher, Tressa (Jerry) Smallwood, and Janice (Clyde) Harris; four brothers, Jimmy (Sissy) Root, Darrell Root, Verrell (Barbara) Root, Melvin Root and Ida Mae, all of London, Ky.; 13 grandchildren, Chelsea, Haley, Aaron, Mike, Kaleb, Tara, Jade, Sarah, Karrisa, Dakota, Monica, Forrest and Triston; five great-grandchildren; plus a host of loving nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16 at Bowling Funeral Home with Verrell Root and Cecil Benge officiating.

Visitation was held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
