LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Dorothy Root, 69, London, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 21, 1944 in Clay County, Ky., the daughter of the late Ed and Daisy France Isom. She was a former Caron Spinning employee and retired from Marymount Hospital, and was affiliated with Pine Grove Baptist Church.
She was united in marriage to Howard Root, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dovie Morasn; and two brothers, James Isom and David Isom.
She is survived by a son, John Root and wife, Amy of London; two sisters, Reecia Samples and Wanda Combs, both of Manchester, Ky.; a brother, Robert Isom of Manchester; four grandchildren, Kandis Taylor and husband, Kevin, Tara Scharf and husband, Kenton, Khloe Root and Hunter Disney; and three great-grandchildren, Kaden and Kennedy Taylor and Brantley Scharf; plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn her passing.
Funeral service for Dorothy Root will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 11 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Ronnie Ball, Eddie Elmore and Gene Greene officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Taylor, Kenton Scharf, Brandon Samples, Jerry Gross, David Gross and Shane Rice.
The family will received friends at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday.
