LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Elbert Smith, 85, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013.
Born Oct. 4, 1928 in Clay County, Ky., he was the son of the late Chester and Helen Hoskins Smith.
He was a retired employee of Laurel Bargo Vault Company, a member of the Laurel River United Baptist Church, and a veteran of the United States Army.
He was united in marriage to Lorena Smallwood Smith who survives. He is also survived by three children, Tony Smith and wife Sherry, Clifton Smith and wife Flora and Patricia Jones and husband Michael, all of London; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Annville, Ky.; two sisters, Mary Mills and Nancy Wyatt; three brothers, Roscoe, Russell and Raleigh Smith, all of London; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Smith; a grandson, Joshua Jones; and two siblings, Cordy and Stella Sizemore.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Terry Amburgey officiating.
Burial followed in the Campground Cemetery.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
