John R. House

Former postal clerk

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — John R. House, 85, Johnson Road, London, Ky., passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2012, at Saint Joseph London.

Born April 17, 1927 in Crawford, Ky., he was the son of the late Lee and Janie Baker House. He was a retired postal clerk, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of New Salem United Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ott House and Lee House Jr.; and two sisters, Nona House and Lottie Bea Hammons.

Survivors include his wife, Vada Hampton House, London; daughter, Brenda Blair and husband, Don, London; a son, Robert House and wife, Ida, London; a brother, Coleman, House, London; five sisters, Geneva Hibbitts, Norma Garland, Cardella House and Eunice House, all of London,  and Letha Garland, Science Hill, Ky.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 in the chapel of London Funeral Home with Merle Owens and Cecil Benge officiating.

Burial followed in Old Salem Cemetery, Laurel County, with the local DAV in charge of military honors.

Pallbearers were Jeff Hammons, Troy House, Darrell House, David Byrd II, Brian House, John Stickler, Felix York and Don York.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
