Christine Taylor

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Mrs. Christine Taylor, 90, departed this life on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly in London.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 28 years, Henry C. Taylor, a former employee of Kentucky Utilities; two grandchildren, Robert Clayton Taylor and his brother, Gregory Lee Taylor, sons of Bobby Taylor and Janice Mays Gilbert; her parents, Bert and Debbie Hyde Steele; and two sisters, Rachel Reid and Margaret Brock, with whom she was extremely close.

Mrs. Taylor was employed by the Laurel County Board of Education for more than 25 years. Of greater significance to her employment with the school system, she was a devoted wife and mother whose first priority was to build confidence, strength of character, a strong work ethic and high moral standards in each of her children. She taught them that family always comes first. She was an avid sports fan who truly loved watching her children and grandchildren perform athletically, in the arts, academically, and at church functions. She was proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, for the unique person that each developed into.

Mrs. Taylor was raised during the Great Depression, during which time she learned to value the importance of hard work. After graduating high school, she left her parent’s home for Baltimore, Maryland. Having never before left Kentucky, this was quite an adventure. She went to Maryland to support her country during World War II, obtaining employment in a factory which produced weaponry for the war effort.

In later life, Mrs. Taylor enjoyed going to estate auctions, yard sales, and flea markets seeking antique treasures.

She is survived by eight children, Bobby Taylor, Larry (Joan) Taylor, Christie (Cliff) Williams, and Janice (Johnny) Hoskins, all of London; Bill (Barbara) Taylor of Danville; Kathy (Bill) Sears of Corbin; Joyce (Joe) Cummins of Mt. Vernon, and Joey Taylor of East Bernstadt.

She is further survived by her adopted sister, Wanda (Larry) Herron of London; an adopted brother, Wayne Steele of Winchester; and two brothers, Jimmy Steele of Winchester and Lewis Steele of Oakley, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Taylor Hensley of Corbin; a brother-in-law, Richard Austin of Cincinnati, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; one step-grandchild; 31 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of Corinth Baptist Church for the past 66 years where she witnessed all eight of her children make the most important decision of their lives.

Her death will leave a void in each of her family member’s lives. Her legacy of self-sacrifice will be forever remembered.

Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Taylor were conducted Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. in London Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Deaton officiating.

Burial follow at A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.

The family received friends at London Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour of 3 p.m.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Jeff Taylor, Todd Taylor, Rob Wesley, Mark Taylor, Chris Sears, John Hoskins and Jason Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren.
