LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — John M. Kennedy, 81, of London, Ky., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Ky.
He was born on March 4, 1932, in Whitley County, Ky., the son of the late Joseph “Pappy Joe” and Ida Myers Kennedy.
He was united in marriage to Martha Louise Miracle Kennedy, who preceded him in death on November 27, 2013.
He is survived by three children, J.D. Kennedy and wife, Donna, of London, C. A. Kennedy and wife, Angie, of Corbin and LeAnn Kennedy of London; six siblings, Carl and Jim Kennedy and Mary Abbott, all of London, Margaret Settles of Florida, Helen Whitaker of Indiana and Gene Kennedy of Somerset; seven grandchildren, Kiffen, Keaton, Jared and Hunter Kennedy, Jakobe Root and Logan and Jacob Johnson; his daughter-in-law, Delonda Root of London; plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his passing. He is also survived by a very special person, who John considered as one of his own, Bobby Evans, of London.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is also preceded in death by a son, Zane Kennedy; a sister, Ruth Ann Prewitt; and three brothers, Billy, Robert and Tom Kennedy.
He was the owner and operator of Kennedy’s Garage, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Baptist Church with Terry Amburgey, Owen Edwards and John Hale officiating.
Burial followed in the Liberty Cemetery at London.
Military honors were conducted by the local DAV.
Pallbearers were Jared and Keaton Kennedy, Brody Creech, Bill and Joe Prewitt and Johnny Settles.
Bowling Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
