Viola Stanley

March of Dimes volunteer

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Viola Shackleford Stanley, 82, Evarts, Ky., went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Saint Joseph-London, following a brief illness.

A native and lifelong resident of Harlan County, Ky., she was very active in her community and served as a volunteer for many organizations including the March of Dimes. She was also active with the Harlan County Homemakers Club, Evarts Extension and was a member of Evarts Methodist Church.

Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Stanley Sr.; and her parents, John Bailey Shackleford and Mildred Short Shackleford.

Survivors include three children, Sharon Estes and husband, David, Indianapolis, Ind., Clyde Stanley Jr., Evarts, Ky., and Kay Faulkner and husband, the Rev. Roy Faulkner, London; two grandsons, Roger Estes and Michael Estes; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 2 at the church with the Rev. Roy Faulkner and the Rev. David Gross officiating.

Burial will follow in Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
