LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Martha Vela Abbott, 90, London, Ky., passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013.
A Laurel County native, she was born Dec. 13, 1922, the daughter of the late John M. and Mary Belle Johnson Lawson.
She was a former employee of London Laundry for 42 years and a member of the Pine Hill United Baptist Church for 73 years.
She was united in marriage to William Ralph Abbott who survives. She is also survived by three brothers, Estill Lawson and wife, Bertha and Norman Lawson and wife, Janice, all of London, and Clyde Lawson and wife, Sabra, of Berea, Ky.; five sisters, Ruth Hampton and husband, Homer, Lee Hammack and husband, Robert, and Betty Gray, all of London, Sue Volz and husband, Bill, of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Mary McDougall and husband Leonard, of Chelsea, Mich.; plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Stewart and husband, Ernest, Janie Onkst and husband, Estill, Phyllis Evans and husband, Arvel and Joann Lawson; and two brothers, Marvin Lawson and James L. (Bud) Lawson.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon today, Wednesday, May 1 at Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Jabe Smith and Gary Lawson officiating.
Burial will follow in the McDaniel Cemetery, Laurel County.
Pallbearers will be Jerry, Randy and Steve Lawson, Marvin Graham, Jim Evans and Tommy Stewart.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
