James Edwin Wernicke

Owner of roofing company

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — James Edwin Wernicke, 76, Corbin, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin, Ky.

Born Oct. 5, 1935 in Brooksville, Fla., the son of the late Edwin and Gladys Falney Wernicke. He was self-employed as the owner of a roofing company, was a Chief Commissary for the U.S. Coast Guard, affiliated with the Baptist faith and a member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jean Bell.

Survivors include his wife, Nannie Proffitt Wernicke, Corbin; four sons, Edwin Ray (Julie) Wernicke, Inverness, Fla., Paul Wernicke, Brooksville, Fla., Harold (Juanita) Hicks, and Chandler Dale Wernicke, both of Corbin; four daughters, Michelle (Ernie) Hutman and Quana (Jason) Sims, both of Brooksville, Fla., Linda (Randy) McConnell and Sharon Frekey, both of Corbin; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, George Reddman, Brooksville, Fla.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. until the 2 p.m. Friday, March 2 funeral hour at London Funeral Home Chapel with Della Snyder and Forrester Baker officiating.

Burial followed in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
