Elva Lee Jones

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Elva Lee Jones, born Nov. 12, 1958, went to God’s loving arms on March 8, 2013. Lee was devoted to her family and her many wonderful friends and she will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by her parents, Mitchell and Alice Faye (Gaither) Jones, of London; her sisters, Charlotte Jones and Janice (Harold) Mosley; her brothers, Robert Jones and Douglas Jones, all of London.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis Jones; and her grandparents, Elbert and Elva Jones, of London, and Mary Lee (Hughes) and John Henry Gaither, of Anniston, Ala.

Lee loved going to the beach and she dearly loved her nieces and nephews, Jason, Travis, Kelsey, Noah, Brittany, Zack, Tim, Tyler, Brandon, Haley, Alicia and Devon.

She graduated from Cumberland College and earned her master degree in social work at the University of Georgia. She was employed by Health Directions.

When Lee was named The Sentinel-Echo’s “Best of the Best” for social work in 2010, it stated that “The people ... who come in contact with Lee experience true compassion and caring that comes directly from the heart.” When Lee’s colleagues were asked the first word that came to their mind when hearing the name Lee Jones, their responses included “Wonderful,” “Dedicated,” “Awesome,” “Loyal,” “Compassionate,” “Enduring” and “Amazing.” Her family agrees wholeheartedly with those descriptions and would also add “Loving, magnificent and extraordinary.”

Funeral services for Lee Jones were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, March 11 in the chapel of London Funeral Home with Wayne House and Gary Kirby officiating.

Burial followed in Jones Cemetery, Laurel County.

Pallbearers were Brian Fiechter, Michael Jones, Andrew Jones, Scott Carroll, Jason Collins, Travis Collins, Zackary Jones and Dylan Jones.

Visitation was after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
