Martin Young

Retired barber

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Martin Young, 89, of London, Ky., passed away, Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Laurel Heights Home for the Elderly.  

Born Oct. 30, 1922, at Bulan in Perry County, Ky., he was the son of the late Elijah and Lourania Fuller Young.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lela Fern Baker Young; his sister, Alma Young; and his brother, Troy Young.  

Survivors include two children, David Martin Young and Judy Ann Young Smith, both of London; three grandchildren, David Ryan Young, Cameron Justin Smith and Trey Jordan Smith; and one great-grandchild, David Rylan Young.

He was a retired barber, a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II, and a member of Mt. Zion Church of Christ.

Funeral services for Martin Young were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Brown officiating.

Burial followed in the Locust Grove Cemetery at Keavy.

Military honors were conducted by the Keavy DAV.

Pallbearers were Glennis Proffitt, John Amburgey, Ricky, Donald and Ronnie Pennington, Cam and Trey Smith and Ryan Young.  

Honorary pallbearer was  David Rylan Young.

The family received friends at Bowling Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Monday.
