Sylvester Smith

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Sylvester Smith, 78, departed from this life at Oaktree Hospital in Corbin, Friday, Sept. 13, 2013.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1935 in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Shelby and Dorothy Taylor Smith.

He was a retired Massey Ferguson employee and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Hinkle Smith, and seven brothers and sisters.

He was survived by one daughter, Sherry Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; five sons, Terry Smith of Rockwood, Mich., Shelby, Richard and Kevin Smith, all of Charleston, S.C., and Mark Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Wanda Hawk and Luemma Shirkey, both of London; plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation was held after noon Tuesday at the funeral home.
