Herschel Reed

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Herschel Reed, 87, of Marshes Siding, Ky., passed away Friday, Sept. 20, 2013,  at his home.

A Celebration of Life was held Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Crossroads Baptist Church with Brother Grant Hasty officiating.

Burial followed in the Swiss Colony Cemetery in London, Ky.

He was born Sept. 6, 1926 in Johnson County, Ky., to Alonzo Reed and Beulah (Lemaster) Reed. Herschel was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed reading the Holy Bible, hunting, fishing, gardening, as well as walking in the woods, training bird dogs and horses. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Carol (Willis) Reed; a daughter, Karen Brummett; brothers, Arnold, Edward, and Kenneth Reed; and a sister, Adeline Fannin.

Survivors include his wife, Jan (Slaven) Reed whom he married, October 11, 2001; sons, Keith Watters and wife, Patti, of Peking, Ind., and Ben Watters and wife, Becky, of Palmira, Ind.; daughters, Beth Gregory and husband, Scott, of Eubank, Ky., Marty Williams and husband, Tim, of London, Jill Meece and husband, David, of Somerset, Julie Keith and husband, John, of Cookeville, Tenn., Anne Jensen and husband, Jeff, of Lynchburg, Va., and Sara King and husband, William, of Marshes Siding, Ky.; brothers, James Reed and wife, Eula, of Orlando, Fla., Danny Reed and wife, Bobbi, of Greensboro, Md., and Sammy Reed and wife, Jewel, of Oil Springs, Ky.; sisters, Bonnie Stapleton of Volga, Ky., Helen Jean Kelly and husband, Jack, and Judy Bowen and husband, Woody, of Flat Gap, Ky.; 19 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
