Charles Eugene Morris

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Charles Eugene Morris, 76, of Keavy, Ky., passed away at his residence on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.

He was born April 22, 1937, in Laurel County, Ky., the son of the late Charlie and Rhoda Cobb Morris.

He is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Lockaby and husband, Kinred, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Evelyn Roark of London; two brothers, Johnny Morris and wife, Margie, of London and Russell Morris and wife, Brenda, of Keavy; plus a host of other friends and relatives to mourn his passing.

He was a retired school teacher and coach, having attended both Cumberland College and Eastern Kentucky University, where he received a bachelor of science degree.  He was a member of Bethel United Baptist Church and attended Corbin First Assembly.

In 1962, Gene took up the game of golf.  After his retirement, he was on the golf course every day, weather and health permitting.  With several holes in one during his golfing career, on March 22 and 23, 2005, he accomplished a rare feat by hitting a hole in one on two consecutive days.  He was a 2001 Laurel County Sports Hall of Fame Inductee.

Funeral service will be conducted at 12 noon today, Friday, Nov. 1 in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Johnny Morris and Mike Cox officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily.

The family received friends at Bowling Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Thursday.
