LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Elbert Brown, 91, London, Ky., passed away Monday, April 21, 2014.
He was born Oct. 22, 1922 in Laurel County, Ky., the son of the late David and Lear Chandler Brown.
He was a retired state employee and a farmer, and was a member of the New Bethel United Baptist Church.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Mays Brown who survives. He is also survived by two children, Sharon Strange and husband Robbie of Lexington and Bailus Brown and wife Irene of London; a sister, Leeria Cornett of London; three grandchildren, Robert Brown, Michelle Morris and husband Steve and Chad Bowling and wife Melissa; six great-grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by 12 siblings, Delbert, Orville, Homer, Robert, Layton, and David Brown, Alpha Middleton, Vennia Hacker, Ora Cornett, Nora Gabbard, Cecil Garland and Abbie Wilson; and a grandchild.
Funeral service was held at 12 noon Thursday, April 24 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Verrel Root and Herschel Walker officiating.
Burial followed in the Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Brown, Steve Morris, William Vaughn, Chad Bowling, Fred Cornett, Frank Cornett, Jack Brown and Roger Brown.
Visitation was held after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
