LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Shorty Hammons, 67, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at Saint Joseph London.
He was born on Jan. 3, 1945, in Clay County, Ky., the son of the late Orland and Daisy Gray Hammons. He was a retired Caron Spinning Company mechanic and a member of New Salem Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two sisters, Sudie Garland and Imogene Whitis; three brothers, O. W. Hammons, Harry Hammons and Dorsie Hammons.
He is survived by two children, James William (Kristie) Hammons of London, and Daisy (Michael) Ward of Lexington; one sister, Jewell Hammons of London; two brothers, Elmer “Banty” (Rhea) Hammons, and Clarence “Tot” Hammons, all of London; four grandchildren, Raven, Tori, Chris and Kyra; and sister-in-law, Hazel Hammons of London; plus a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly, and other friends and relatives to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Bowling Funeral Home with Merle Owens and Cecil Benge officiating.
Burial followed in the Hammons Family Cemetery in London.
Pallbearers were Travis, Josh, Jake and Jared Hammons; Mike Brown; Wayne Osborne; Ryan and Mike Hammons; James Garland and Brian Hammons.
Honorary pallbearer was Mike Johnson.
