LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Cotha Taylor McCowan, 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the Continue Care Hospital in Corbin, Ky.
Cotha entered into this life on July 18, 1924, in Knox County, Ky., as the daughter of the late Levi Taylor and Rachel Hodge Taylor.
She was the wife of the late Ernest D. McCowan.
Cotha was a member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in London and will be remembered for her love of cooking and crafting, but most of all for the love she had for her family.
Cotha will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Mary Kay McCowan Hibbard and husband, Rev. Calvin Hibbard; two granddaughters: Mary Ellen Nichols (John) and Suzann Derickson ( Ryan); three great- grandchildren: Joshua, Cooper, and Kate Nichols; two brothers: Eugene Taylor and Reed David Taylor (Billie); two sisters: Donna Bullock (Layton) and Ruth Wade (Ray); one brother- in- law: Herb Partin; one special niece: Anna Mae Spear (Jim); and a host of other family members, friends, and neighbors.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother: Carl Taylor; four sisters: Gertrude McDaniel (Paul), Alene Taylor, Mildred Fink (Jake), Mary Lou Partin; two half- sisters: Edna Mullins (Omar) and Opal Bradford (John); and one special sister- in- law and friends, Willie Mullins.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Corbin Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Johnny Jervis and Brother Doug Day officiating.
Interment followed in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, Ky.
Family and Friends were received on Thursday March 13, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Corbin Funeral Home.
