Neola Johnson

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Neola Johnson, 94, departed this life on Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Heritage Nursing Home.

She was born on January 13, 1918 in Laurel County, Ky., the daughter of the late James and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Sherman Steward. 

She was a homemaker and the oldest member of the Pine Hill United Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell Johnson; one daughter, Shirley Belle Johnson; two sons, Boyce and Kenneth Johnson; four brothers and one sister, Owen, Ovid, Gilbert, and Clarence Steward and Pearl Wagers.

She is survived by two children, Janice (Fred) Lawson and Dean (Sharon) Johnson, all of London; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Johnson of Bonita Springs, Fla.; one sister, Edith Keith of Connersville, Ind.; three brothers, David Steward of Connersville, Ind., Leo (Jo) Steward of Hamilton, Ohio, and Willard Steward of London; eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, several step grand and great grandchildren; plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at Bowling Funeral Home with Jabe Smith officiating. 

Burial will follow in the McDaniel Cemetery in London.

Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, Dec. 26 at the funeral home.
