G. Farrel Smith

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — G. Farrel Smith, 78, of Knoxville, Tenn., passed away January 29, 2013 surrounded by family and friends.

Born in London, Ky., May 27, 1934. He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology with a degree in electrical engineering and math. Smith retired from Philips-Magnavox and was the owner with his wife, Joyce, of A.A. Top Hat Printing until their retirement.

He enjoyed bridge, gardening and UK basketball.

 He was preceded in death by his infant son, Glen Smith and by his parents Sanford C. Smith and Mary Jane (Sasser) Smith and sister Flor-enz Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Gabbard Smith; children Gary (Marilyn) Smith of Auburn, Ind., Lisa (Roger) Sarasien of Waterloo, Ind., and Pamela Smith of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson with two more great-grandchildren on the way; brother, Marnell (Joy) Smith; sister, Delaphene (Ernie) Webb; plus dozen of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

The family received friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with funeral service to follow.

Interment will be at a later date in London.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sharon Baptist Building on Faith Fund or the charity of your choice.
