Jags beat Bobcats, fall to Taylor Co.

North Laurel baseball continues its ups and downs

PINEVILLE—The North Laurel Jaguars appeared to be on track as they picked up a 6-4 win over Bell County on Monday night, but stumbled once again as they dropped a tough loss to Taylor County 7-5 on Tuesday night.

Ryan Evans pitched all seven innings and only allowed six hits against a quality 13th Region opponent in Bell County as the Jaguars pulled off the come from behind win.

“I was proud of the way they fought back,” North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. “Bell County is one of the top teams in the region.”

After digging a 4-0 hole, the Jaguars came fighting back with big hits from Tanner Smith and better pitching from Evans.

“He was having location problems,” McWhorter said. “But after that he threw really well the rest of the way. When he gets in it in the zone he is effective.”

The Jaguars closed the game at 4-2 in the fourth inning and exploded for four runs in the fifth inning. Nick Shannon and Logan Howell led off the inning with a single while Thomas Kidd drove in the tying run on an error.

Tyler Edwards took one for the team with a hit by pitch to load the bases and Evans walked to give the Jaguars the 5-4 advantage.

Howell and Smith went 2 for 4 while Edwards went 1 for 3 but recorded a double.

“It’s good to see Tyler do that,” McWhorter said. “He’s went through surgery and overcame a lot for this team. He finds a way to get on base. He will do all kinds of little things to help the team and shows great senior leadership.”

The Jaguars could not keep things going as they dropped their next game at Taylor County 7-5.

North Laurel was scheduled to travel to Cawood last night, and will host Lawrence Co. tonight and Knott Co. Central on Saturday.
