Barracudas capture Lake Cumberland Swim Conference Small Team Division
Local swimmers shine at conference meet

The Laurel County Barracudas swim team finished their season with a bang by winning the Lake Cumberland Swim Conference Small Team Division on August 2. In addition, the Barracudas won the first ever LCSA Spirit Award. The Barracudas are coached by Billy Detherage, Marshall Detherage, and Brittney Thompson.
The Lake Cumberland Swim Association Championship was held on August 1 and 2 at Russell Springs City Pool. Teams competing at the conference championship were Laurel Co., Knox Co., Russell Springs, Somerset, and Berea. Swimmers first swam in preliminary events. Those who placed in the top 12 advanced to the conference finals. Two Laurel Co. swimmers set new LCSA records. Katie Brown placed first in the girls 6 and under, 25-meter Breaststroke with a record time of 30.36 seconds. Her brother, Keller Brown, placed first in the boys 7-8, 25-meter Breaststroke with a record time of 24.77 seconds. This was the first time that swimmers from the Laurel Co. Swim Team have broken LCSA records. The top three finishers in each event received medals, and places 4 through 12 received ribbons. Individual placements and times are as follows.
Emilee Albright: 8th place – girls 7-8, 25 meter Breaststroke – 32.99; 12th place – girls 7-8, 25 meter Freestyle – 26.59.
Katie Brown: 1st place – girls 6 and under 25 meter Breaststroke – 30.36 – LCSA record; 3rd place – girls 6 and under 25 meter Backstroke – 29.54; 7th place – girls 6 and under 25 meter Freestyle – 27.55.
Keller Brown: 1st place – boys 7-8, 25 meter Breaststroke – 24.77 – LCSA record; 3rd place – boys 7-8, 25 meter Freestyle – 20.46; 4th place – boys 8 and under, 25 meter Butterfly –26.37; 6th place – boys 7-8, 25 meter Backstroke – 26.93.
Nate Bruner: 8th place – boys 6 and under, 25 meter Backstroke – 42.84; 11th place – boys 6 and under, 25 meter Freestyle – 44.70.
Jonah Deaton: 3rd place – boys 9-10, 25 meter Freestyle – 17.70; 4th place – boys 10 and under, 50 meter Freestyle – 40.60; 8th place – boys 9-10, 25 meter Backstroke – 24.94; 8th place – boys 9-10, 25 meter Butterfly – 25.88; 8th place – boys 9-10, 25 meter Breaststroke – 27.90.
Haley Herrell: 11th place – girls 13-14, 50 meter Butterfly – 52.84.
Cade Holcomb: 11th place – boys 6 and under, 25 meter Backstroke – 1:08.08.
Sawyer Holcomb: 8th place – boys 12 and under, 100 meter Individual Medley – 1:56.61; 10th place – boys 11-12, 50 meter Breaststroke – 1:03.51.
Audrey Jackson: 3rd place – girls 9-10, 25 meter Butterfly – 19.52; 4th place – girls 9-10, 25 meter Backstroke – 22.10; 4th place – girls 10 and under, 50 meter Freestyle – 40.82; 5th place – girls 9-10, 25 meter freestyle – 18.18; 7th place – girls 9-10, 25 meter Breaststroke – 24.87.
Terri Jackson: -9th place – girls 12 and under, 100 meter Individual Medley – 1:39.26; 10 place – girls 11-12, 50 meter Backstroke – 46.95; 11th place – girls 11-12, 100 meter Freestyle – 1:27.76; 12th place – girls 11-12, 50 meter Butterfly – 46.68.
Sam Kavarana: 10th place – boys 8 and under, 25 meter Butterfly – 32.62; 11th place – boys 7-8, 25 meter Freestyle – 25.84; 12th place – boys 7-8, 25 meter Backstroke – 33.23.
Simone Kavarana: 3rd place – girls 6 and under, 25 meter Breaststroke – 40.86; 3rd place – girls 6 and under, 25 meter Freestyle – 24.90; 4th place – girls 6 and under, 25 meter Backstroke – 31.08.
Emma McGraw: 9th place – girls 9-10, 25 meter Freestyle – 18.69; 11th place – girls 10 and under, 50 meter Freestyle – 44.55
Seth McGraw: 10th place – boys 7-8, 25 meter Breaststroke – 39.65.
Caleb Parker: 4th place – boys 12 & under, 100 meter Individual Medley – 1:41.49; 5th place – boys 11-12, 50 meter Butterfly – 45.76; 5th place – boys 11-12, 100 meter Freestyle – 1:25.12; 7th place – boys 11-12, 50 meter Freestyle – 36.68; 7th place – boys 11-12, 50 meter Backstroke – 48.25.
Moriah Parker: 5th place –girls 13-14, 100 meter Freestyle – 1:22.84; 5th place – girls 13-14, 50 meter Breaststroke – 46.67; 6th place – girls 13-14, 50 meter Butterfly – 39.42; 6th place – girls 13-14, 50 meter Freestyle – 34.45; 9th place – girls 13-14, 50 meter Backstroke – 46.22.
Emily Sharp: 12th place – girls 9-10, 25 meter Breaststroke – 29.04.
Several Laurel Co. relay teams also placed at the LCSA championship.
