Lady Jags blank Lady Pirates

North Laurel rolls 9-0 over Belfry

By Tim Branstetter

North Laurel turned things around on Saturday and headed in the right direction, which turned out to be the end of the plank for the Lady Pirates as the Lady Jaguars defeated Belfry 9-0.

“The girls came ready to play,” North Laurel coach Noami Puskar said. “They were able to connect passes and keep possession of the ball and that is what I really wanted to focus on. This is the way my girls can play.”

Lindsey Evans put the Lady Jaguars (2-1-0) on the board early with a goal inside the first five minutes of play. Evans completed the hat trick with two more goals, one inside the 10 minute mark and the other inside the 13 minute mark for the 3-0 Lady Jaguar advantage.

“She is phenomenal,” Puskar said. “She is quick, she is able to get the ball at her feet, she handles it well under pressure, she is able to dribble in and out and take the shot. She doesn’t panic under pressure and that is key for a forward.”

Rachael Lewis and Keaton Pennington added goals before the break to give the Lady Jaguars the demanding 5-0 lead.

“It was important to get off on the right foot,” Puskar said. “To get the momentum up and we were able to do that.”

The Lady Jaguars wasted no time getting on the board in the second half as Kayla Bargo scored inside the first two minutes. Bargo also completed the hat trick with two more goals including a penalty kick around the 24 minute mark of the second half for the 8-0 advantage. Lewis added her second goal late in the game for the 9-0 final score.

“Kayla is playing offensive mid which takes her a little farther from the net, but she has such good ball control and is able to get the ball to the forwards. She also has such a good shot from a long range that she is able to get them in the net as well.”

The Lady Jaguars look to keep up their scoring and build on their recent improvements.

“We just need to bring what we have accomplished in the last two games to the next game and throughout the season,” Puskar said.

North Laurel played host to Bourbon Co. last night.
