LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — The Caring Hearts Committee at Saint Joseph London presented Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officer with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, with a check for $1,500 that will go towards Saturday’s Shop with a Cop.
Acciardo said that he really appreciated the donation and that it will go towards making Christmas better for a lot of children in Laurel County.
The Caring Hearts Committee is made-up of employees across the hospital.
All employees are asked to vote on their favorite charities each year and the top three winners are identified. Relay for Life is always their fourth quarter charity.
Fundraising each quarter consists of paying $1 to wear jeans every other Friday, Bake Sales, Chili/Soup Sales, T-shirt Sales, Dessert Sales, Hot Dog Lunches and Christmas Wreath/Tree Sales.
Saint Joseph London Public Affairs Director Sharon Hershberger said the proceeds from all of their events go toward the chosen charities.
“Committee members and other ‘go to’ staff cook, bake, create items to sell and the rest of the employees are great about supporting our events,” Hershberger said. “We are also blessed with donations from food vendors for some items so our overhead is extremely low. Practically all money raised is given back to the community.”
This fiscal year, Caring Hearts chose the following as their charities: Come-Unity Cooperative Care, Shop With A Cop, Camp L.E.A.P., and Relay for Life.
