LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The Laurel County Sheriff and County Attorney’s offices teamed up once again to conduct a third roundup on October 3 of a large number of mothers and fathers who were delinquent on their child support payments, said Sheriff John Root and Attorney J.L. Albright.
The roundup netted a total of nine arrests, and was one of their most successful joint roundups to date.
Deputies located men and women who were wanted on bench warrants, charging them with non-payment of child support. They were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
“Operation Child Care III” is a continuing effort by Root and Albright to make a concentrated effort to arrest individuals for child support violations. According to Albright, the task force is looking for 57 more individuals who owe more than $642,072.91 in child support payments collectively.
Since taking office, Albright’s office has seen its statewide ranking in child support payments continue to rise. Laurel County ranked 100 in January 2010. As of the end of August 2012, Laurel County had climbed in the statewide rankings to 82. In 2011 alone, collections increased by more than 5 percent.
Albright said he hopes to see a similar increase in 2012, which would be a significant increase over last year and would put the county attorney’s office on track to collect more than $6 million in child support for this year.
