Gunshot scares intruder

Homeowner stops attempted break-in

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Imagine waking up in the wee hours of the morning to see someone coming through your bedroom window.

That was the situation for a resident on Hodge Road early Tuesday morning.

The homeowner told police she awakened around 4:30 a.m. and saw a man nearly halfway inside her bedroom window. The woman fired a gunshot into the ceiling as a warning to the would-be intruder, who immediately backed out of the window. She then called 9-1-1 to report the incident.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chuck Johnson arrived at the home and quickly found 35-year-old Bobby Green of 3982 Johnson Road of London, hiding under the residence. Green reportedly refused to come out from his hiding place, forcing deputies to pull him out. During that apprehension and arrest, Deputy Josh Scott sustained an injury to his hand and required medical treatment at Saint Joseph London. Scott was treated and released and Green was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center on charges of second-degree burglary, resisting arrest and public intoxication.

The homeowner was not injured during the events.

Assisting at the scene were Kentucky State Police Sgt. Steve Walker and Sixth District Constable Denver Mays.
