LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
While hunting is usually done in wooded areas, a man who was allegedly using animals as target practice landed in jail instead.
Charles R. Farthing, 18, of Crescent View Apartments in London, and a 15-year-old juvenile were reportedly driving through a subdivision near Deerfoot Drive, one mile east of London, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, shooting at animals in the closely populated housing development.
When Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies Greg Turner and Robbie Grimes responded to the scene, they discovered a black Silverado pickup with a dead cat and a dead fox in the truck bed. They also found a .22 caliber rifle and a .270 rifle in the vehicle.
Farthing told officers he was driving around, looking for animals to shoot. Police reported the cat was a pet of one of the residents in the subdivision. He was arrested and charged with second-degree wanton endangerment and third-degree criminal mischief. The juvenile was released into the custody of his father.
Assisting at the scene were Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Detective Tommy Johnston, Deputy Steve Hoskins, and Constable Eldon Brown.
