5-vehicle crash on U.S. 25, four injured

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — Four motorists were injured in a five-vehicle crash on south U.S. 25 early Thursday afternoon.

The drivers, their passengers, and the vehicles included:

Emily Burkhart, 20, of Ky. 2392 in Corbin, driving a gray Pontiac, was injured.

Anita L. Brock, 57, of Cardinal Drive in Corbin was not injured.

Ray Philpot, 67, of Brown Lane in London was driving a Silverado pickup. He was not injured.

A silver Kia was driven by Danita Andes, 45, of East Laurel Road in London. She was injured.

Mynda Andes, 18, of East Laurel Road in London was injured.

A Suzuki car was driven by Georgia Brown, 55, of Farris Hill Road in Gray who was not injured. Four other passengers in the car were also not injured.

An Altima was driven by a 17 year old from London, who was not injured. Her 17-year-old female passenger, also from London, was not injured.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Deputy John Inman, along with Sgt. Josh Gaylor are investigating the accident which occurred three miles south of London around 1 p.m.

Apparently, a Suzuki car driven by Brown was traveling northbound on U.S. 25 and was attempting a left turn into House’s Autos Sales. There were cars behind the Suzuki also traveling northbound. An Altima, driven by a 17-year-old female driver, was unable to stop for the slowing and stopping vehicles (that were stopping for the Suzuki car making a left turn). The Altima struck the car in front of her (in the rear). A gray Pontiac, driven by Burkhart, was knocked into the southbound lane of U.S. 25, hitting a south bound Silverado pickup. The gray Pontiac was knocked into another northbound car’s rear — a silver Kia, driven by Andes, knocking it into the Suzuki that originally was turning left.

The five vehicles carrying 12 motorists came to rest blocking U.S. 25 for several minutes. A total of four persons were injured and taken by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Saint Joseph London for treatment.

Assisting at the scene were the Lily Volunteer Fire Department, the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and Constable Tim May.
