LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

These were just a few of the bits of knowledge the 12 teams participating in the annual Laurel County Adult Education and Literacy Trivia Bee were asked Tuesday.
The trivia bee was held at Jackson Energy, who sponsored three teams. This year’s trivia categories included Kentucky Festivals, One and Done (one hit wonders in music, flash in the pan sports), Famous Commercials (and infamous taglines), Limited Wheels (limited production vehicles), and Young Adult Fiction.
In the end, the team from Chalice Christian Church Disciples of Christ, “Chalice Champs,” made up of Tanya Tyler, Patty Smallwood and Jack Farmer, came out on top, taking home a really big trophy and bragging rights for 2013.
After five rounds, 10 questions each, the Chalice Champs were tied for first place with The Sentinel-Echo with 35 points.
Following a sudden death round, the Chalice Champs beat out The Sentinel-Echo, 37-36. The Sentinel-Echo team consisted of Willie Sawyers, Denis House and Carrie Dillard.
The third place team was the Jackson Energy “Transformers” — Ryan Henderson, Lynne House and Lonnie Farler — at 33 points.
The trivia bee is a fundraiser for the Laurel County Adult Education and Literacy (LCAEL) program.
Kathryn Hardman, executive director, said the event raised $2,500 this year, which will be used for scholarships for GED students. Last year, 187 students earned their GED through LCAEL.
