Pills seized after car crashes and burns

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — A Florida man, who was in Laurel County yesterday visiting his mother, crashed her car on east Ky. 1223 (Springcut Road) around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, the driver, Terry W. Bilger, 44, of Tampa, Fla., was treated for minor injuries at Saint Joseph London.

Bilger was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia because a marijuana pipe was found; possession of marijuana; prescriptions of  controlled substances not in their proper containers, first offense; and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense, because Xanax and Zanaflex pills were found.

Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, along with Deputy Robbie Grimes and Deputy Greg Turner were dispatched to the traffic crash, nine miles south of London.

According to investigators, Bilger was driving his mother’s Chevrolet Monte Carlo eastbound on Ky. 1223 when he lost control, ran off the roadway, hit a culvert, and overturned into a ditch. The car then caught on fire.

As the investigation continued, deputies found numerous assorted pills in the driver’s possession. Detective Jason Back is continuing the investigation into the discovery of the pills. Bilger said he got the pills from a friend. He also stated he received Oxycodone pills from a pain clinic in Florida. Also a large amount of U.S. currency was seized. Following treatment at the London hospital, he was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Assisting at the crash site were London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, and Lily Volunteer Fire Department.
