LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Baptist Regional Medical Center (BRMC) is revamping its name to band together with six other acute-care hospitals in the Baptist Healthcare System throughout Kentucky, as well as clinics, immediate care and wellness centers. CEO Larry W. Gray is inviting the community to come out to celebrate this next chapter for BRMC on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
“The name change is not about driving new revenue as much as it is celebrating who we are,” Gray said.
The Corbin hospital will adopt similar names to Baptist Health La Grange, Lexington, Louisville, Madisonville, Paducah and Richmond hospitals, to better identify facilities in the Baptist Health family.
Baptist Health, a Kentucky-based corporation, also manages county-owned facility Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, and Russell County Hospital in Russell Springs.
“The rebranding was a way for us to say that it’s time that we tell our story better and that we have a visual way of letting people know that we are a healthcare system across the state of Kentucky,” Gray said. “We are more than a hospital…. We still believe that healthcare is a local issue. We are still the Baptist Healthcare family, family taking care of families.”
One out of four babies born in Kentucky are born in a Baptist Health facility, and one out of every five cancer patients are diagnosed or treated in a Baptist Health facility.
“It’s a matter of us taking pride in who we are,” Gray said.
Along with the name change, the hospital will offer additional services to better serve their patients, including general surgery, women’s health, breast health, cardiology, preventative health, orthopedic, oncology, and urology programs. Gray said southeastern Kentucky has a high incidence of cancer, and his goal is to keep more patients close to home.
Gray was named CEO of BRMC in 2011, and since then, he has pushed the hospital into making aggressive plans to meet the needs of the annual budget and is now a financially stable facility, he said.
Currently, BRMC is thinking ahead of the game when it comes to planning for healthcare reform and the upcoming decrease in revenue from Medicare and Medicaid in the years to come.
“I’m very optimistic, don’t think there’s any challenge out there that we can’t face together. We are improving our quality, being more efficient, moving towards and moving into the future,” Gray said.
BRMC has been serving southeastern Kentucky since 1986.
