Police seeking wallet thief

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — While Valentine’s Day is usually a day when men buy gifts for their significant other, this year’s holiday added an extra cost for one man when his wallet was stolen.

The incident took place on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Corbin Walmart store around 10:30 p.m. A man had purchased some items for Valentine’s Day and inadvertently left his wallet lying on the checkout counter.

Once outside the store, the man realized he did not have his wallet and went back inside to claim it. However, the wallet — which had $765 in cash — was gone. The victim called the store’s Loss Prevention team, who pulled up surveillance video of a suspect who took the wallet from the counter. The suspect reportedly left the store in an older model, black Toyota pickup.

Laurel County Sheriff’s officials are now asking if anyone recognizes the suspect, or has information about the theft, to please contact their office at (606) 864-660 or Laurel Dispatch at (606) 878-7000. Callers may remain anonymous.

Deputy Kevin Berry is leading the investigation into the incident.
