LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Two people escaped injury Tuesday afternoon around 3:45 p.m. when their home caught fire in East Bernstadt.
Samantha “Hope” Lewis and her mother, who lived in the house, were able to get out safely. The home at 152 East Highway 1376, which was completely destroyed, was owned by Hope Lewis’ grandparents, Kenneth and Barbara Lewis.
Barbara Lewis said a bed in one of the rooms was on fire and that a baseboard heater, which was in the room, may have caused the blaze.
Kenneth Lewis said his granddaughter lost everything, including a curio cabinet full of collectibles handed down by her great-grandmother.
Assisting at the scene were Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel County Volunteer Fire Department, and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
