LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Traffic along south U.S. 25 was tied up Monday morning following a head-on crash that sent two men to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for their injuries.
The collision happened just after 8 a.m., 10 miles south of London, when a southbound BMW, driven by 19-year-old Justin Adams of Arkle Road in Gray, Ky., rounded a curve and crossed into the northbound lane. He struck a Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by 42-year-old Clyde Hamilton of Nolan Drive in Corbin, head-on, causing both vehicles to block the roadway.
Both men sustained serious injuries from the crash and both were flown from the scene to the Knoxville hospital.
Hamilton has bee released from the hospital. He has a broken ankle and a slash across his face.
Adams is in stable condition. However, he has a rod in his left femur and has a shattered hip on his right side. It will be three months before he will be able to put weight on his right leg, his mother, Darla Tedders, said.
"It will be a very long recovery," she said. "I'm just glad he is alive."
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy John Inman is investigating the accident. He was assisted at the scene by Deputy Greg Turner, Deputy Milton Storm, members of the London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, West Knox Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
