LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
Four employees were locked inside a freezer of a south Laurel restaurant Sunday night while a lone gunman took money and fled the scene.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is now seeking information on the identity of the robber, described as a white male approximately 5 feet 8 inches to six feet tall, weighing between 200 to 225 pounds and wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and a bandana around his face.
The robbery occurred at the Taco Bell restaurant on U.S. 25-E in north Corbin. According to the press release from the sheriff’s office, four employees were on duty when the man entered the store when no other customers were present. The robber demanded money and all the cash drawers were emptied, then forced the employees inside the freezer.
However, one of the employees was able to engage an alarm to police. Around 7:24 p.m., a customer entered the store during the robbery and noticed the cash drawers were empty, standing open and there were no employees around. He immediately notified police, who had already been alerted by the alarm.
Deputy Greg Turner and Detective Billy Madden arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. They were assisted by Sheriff John Root, Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore, Detective Tommy Johnston, Detective Charlie Loomis and Detective Daryl Zanet. The investigation revealed an undisclosed amount of cash had been taken during the robbery.
No restaurant employees were hurt.
