LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
As spring — hopefully — draws closer, many residents in the area have begun cleaning their yards and homes in their yearly “spring cleaning” regime.
For those with items not accepted by local garbage service, the Laurel Ridge Landfill may have the solution to eliminate the clutter.
Jim Ed McDaniel, Solid Waste and PRIDE coordinator for the county, said the landfill offers free dumping on the first Friday of every month.
“This is for items that the regular garbage trucks don’t take, such as appliances,” McDaniel said. “This does not include household garbage. The free dumping is for items the garbage trucks won’t pick up.”
Items such as tires, chemicals, oil and other toxic items will not be accepted. However, large appliances, such as stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers, are accepted during the free dumping day at the landfill.
While McDaniel said the craze for selling metal usually affects the amount of appliances his department handles, the Solid Waste Department will pick up those items on a call by call basis.
“When the price of metal is up, we don’t get that many calls but when the price is down, we get called out a lot,” he added.
If you have any questions regarding what materials are accepted, contact the Solid Waste office at 878-6845.
