Child killed on Parkway

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

A Clay County child died following an accident that involved a Laurel County driver.

The accident that took the life of seven-year-old Jasmine Collins of Garrard occurred around 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20 at the 22-mile marker along Hal Rogers Parkway in Clay County. The child was taken to the Manchester Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Collins, who reportedly lives beside the parkway, was playing outside her home when she ran across the road and was struck by an oncoming 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by 56-year-old Durwin Hoskins of Corbin, located in southern Laurel County.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Lloyd Cochran, public affairs officer with the London Post 11, said the roadway where the accident occurred was  “not well lit” and it was dusk at the time of the incident.

Cochran said that no charges have been filed against Hoskins at this time.
