LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The county’s second traffic fatality in as many months came Friday night after a man died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident last week.
Eddie Nolan, 53, of Pine Hill Brock Road in London, suffered severe injuries and was flown from the scene in eastern Laurel County after he crashed his car into the top of a tree and landed upside down in a ditch.
The accident occurred around 1 p.m. on Thursday. Witnesses said Nolan’s blue Chevrolet car was traveling at a high rate of speed on Tom Cat Trail, or Ky. 1305, five miles east of London, when it crossed into the westbound lane in a curve. Nolan apparently lost control of the vehicle, ran off the shoulder of the roadway, hit the top of a tree and landed in a ditch. He was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of multiple and serious injuries received in the crash.
According to the Fayette County Coroner, Nolan died late Friday night.
The first traffic-related fatality occurred exactly one month earlier, on Jan. 22, when 30-year-old Brandon Bush was killed when his vehicle struck a tree. Bush, of Taylor School Road in London, was on Pine Top Road in western Laurel County. After working on a Chevrolet S-10 pickup, Bush and a friend got it started. Bush was driving it down a hill on a gravel road when he lost control in a steep curve. The vehicle slid sideways and struck a tree at the driver’s side door.
There were 17 traffic fatalities in Laurel County in 2012, more than double the number of fatalities in 2011.
