Tailgate thieves arrested

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

Two Laurel residents took ‘tail gating’ to a whole new level recently after being arrested for stealing — and trying to sell — the tail gates from pickup trucks.

But the act that led to their arrests came from a bad check written to one of the victims for alleged “restitution” for the theft.

The arrests of 25-year-old Travis North and 24-year-old Kalyn Rednour, both of John R. Jones Road in London, came after an investigation by Laurel County Sheriff’s Detectives Josh Scott and Billy Madden and other sheriff’s officials.

North was identified as the suspect who was going to several car lots trying to sell the tail gates. Rednour allegedly wrote a check to one of the victims of the theft as a means of restitution. However, that check had insufficient funds.

North and Rednour were arrested Tuesday night around 8 p.m. on John R. Jones Road, 10 miles west of London by Detectives Madden and Scott. North is charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000. Rednour was charged with theft by deception - cold checks under $500.

The investigation into the recovery of the stolen tail gates continues, as the tail gates are believed to have been sold in another nearby county. Assisting in the investigation were Captain Rodney Van Zant, Senior Sgt. Greg Poynter, Deputy Robbie Grimes, and Deputy Daniel Grigsby.
