LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The two men charged with establishing a gambling business earlier this summer had their day in court last week.
David W. Barnes, 44, of Roy Dugger Road in London and 29-year-old Christopher Lee Asher of Old Whitley Road in London, were both charged with first-degree promoting gambling after police raided a business on North U.S. 25 in early June.
Barnes allegedly rented the facility in a strip mall on north U.S. 25 in the Pittsburg area and Asher was accused of supplying the machines for the gambling business.
During their court hearing on Tuesday, Barnes’ charge was amended to attempt to promote gambling and he was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay court costs of $184.
Asher’s case was dismissed without prejudice, which means the matter can be brought up again if new evidence or other information arises. However, Asher was ordered to forfeit all money and the gambling machines. According to court records, the total value of the forfeiture totals $9,304.76.
