LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
The murder trial for Lisa Gilliam, accused of shooting her husband, London attorney Larry Gilliam, more than 18 months ago was postponed just before it was set for trial.
According to Commonwealth’s Attorney Jackie Steele, the actual postponement came Friday afternoon when one of the key witnesses for the prosecution was not able to participate in the trial scheduled to begin Monday morning.
“One of the lab technicians gave birth Friday,” Steele said. “She is not returning to work until September 1.”
Steele said Monday was to officially reschedule the trial, which was set for September 17 with Special Judge Robert McGinnis.
Robert Norfleet, Gilliam’s attorney, said he was ready for the trial to begin, and maintains his client’s innocence in the shooting incident in which Larry Gilliam died from a wound to the chest on Jan. 7, 2011. The Gilliams were the sole occupants in the attorney’s office when the shooting took place. Lisa Gilliam was indicted two months later and turned herself in to police on the Tuesday after the indictment was announced. She posted a $100,000 cash bond and has remained free on bond since that time.
