LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
A Danville man is held in the Laurel County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond after he allegedly tried to kill his son-in-law.
Kentucky State Police officers, Laurel County Sheriff’s officers and a Laurel County Constable responded to a report of shots being fired at a home on Littontown Road in the East Bernstadt area around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
On arrival, they found 31-year-old William McDougall of East Bernstadt in a physical struggle with 57-year-old William “Billy” Mills of Danville. McDougall had been shot one time.
The arrest report, filed by KSP Sgt. Steve Walker, states Mills borrowed a shotgun, put duct tape over his license plate as an attempt to conceal his tag number, put on surgical gloves and went to McDougall’s home on Littontown Road. Mills allegedly shot twice into the door lock of McDougall’s home to gain entrance, then went inside and shot his son-in-law one time.
McDougall reportedly grabbed the shotgun and wrestled with Mills until police arrived. Police state Mills entered McDougall’s home by force with the intent to kill McDougall. McDougall was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Mills was arraigned in Laurel District Court on Monday and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 21 on charges of attempted murder and first-degree burglary. He is held under a $50,000 fully secured bond — or $100,000 of property — with the condition that if bond is made, Mills will remain on home incarceration.
