LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —
An East Bernstadt man died as a result of a single vehicle crash on Ky. 490 near Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department Friday morning. Lloyd J. Smith, 27, of Parker Creek Road in East Bernstadt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.
Upon arrival, Trooper John Barnett determined a black, 1999 Ford F-150 pickup, operated by Smith, was eastbound on Ky. 490 at 9:30 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve, struck several trees and came to rest in a vacant field.
Smith, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.
No drug or alcohol usage was suspected. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
Trooper Barnett is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the Laurel County EMS and the Crossroads Fire Department.
