Mother, son arrested in sex crime

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. —

A mother and her son were arrested by London Police officers following the report of a possible rape on Sunday.

Officers went to the home of the victim, where they spoke with the 11-year-old child’s mother. The mother stated her daughter had had sexual relations with 18-year-old Jose Morales.

Officers then contacted Agent Frank Keyton with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to help in the investigation. Keyton translated to officers while at Morales’ residence, but his mother, Maria Martinez-Leon did not cooperate with officers. She allegedly told law enforcement multiple stories regarding the whereabouts of her son, stating he was in Tennessee, Florida, and finally said he was in Richmond, Ky.

But her story fell apart when Jose Morales arrived at his mother’s home, at which time he was arrested for first-degree sexual abuse with a minor under the age of 12. His mother’s false stories also landed her in jail with her son, charged with first-degree hindering apprehension. Investigation revealed she had known what was happening for one week prior.

The incident was investigated by Officer Eric Stallard, Sgt. Daniel Robinson, and Detective Stacy Anderkin.
