Belzer joins Sentinel-Echo news team

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — R. Scott Belzer of Atlanta, Ga., recently accepted the position of reporter at The Sentinel-Echo.

Belzer is a Spring 2013 graduate of Georgia State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in journalism. He relocated from Atlanta to London, prior to beginning his job on November 20.

“London is different from Atlanta, but everyone I’ve met so far has been beyond nice and welcoming. It’s refreshing to have people ask about where I’m from, how long I’ve been here, and how much I’m enjoying living here,” he said. “As for the job, it is something I’ve wanted to do since I was in the eighth grade – a real dream come true.”

In 2011, he competed in the biggest rowing competition in the world in Boston, Mass., at the Head of the Charles Regatta for Georgia State University. He is also an avid cyclist and bicycling advocate.

He is the son of Robyn Curtis Belzer of Orlando, Fla., and Deborah Stodghill Mitchell of Conyers, Ga. His sister, Devin Belzer, lives in Washington D.C.

“There was no doubt in my mind that Scott has a real talent for writing; he just needed a place to begin his career,” Managing Editor Carrie Dillard said.  “This opportunity at The Sentinel-Echo will be a chance for him to grow as a young journalist and we are excited to welcome him to our news team.”
