The 2008 NAIA Football Championship Series (FCS) quarterfinals were officially announced by the NAIA office Sunday with No. 8 University of the Cumberlands traveling to No. 3 University of Saint Francis (USF) for quarterfinal action. The game will take place on Saturday at 12 noon in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Cumberlands, Mid-South Conference East champions, earned the second round match-up, a first between the two schools, with a 31-7 win over Shorter College on Saturday. The win marked the Patriots first Football Championship Series win in the program’s history. Currently, the Patriots are riding a 10-game winning streak with their lone loss to NCAA Mars Hill in their season opener.

USF is looking for its eighth shut-out on the year, which would tie the national record in a single-season and are currently on a 51-game home winning streak.

USF is the current champion of the Mid-States Football Association Mideast Division, having won their ninth conference title in the last 10 years. In addition, they finished the regular season undefeated for the fourth time in the last five years. They have appeared in five straight Football Championship Series Semifinal round games winning three of them and hold the most consecutive FCS appearances among current schools with 10.

The quarterfinal winners will meet up on Dec. 6 on campus sites. The 53rd Annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 20 at Rome, Ga. Rome-Floyd County and Shorter (Ga.) College will host the event at Barron Stadium.

Tickets went on sale on Monday, and will remain on sale until Friday at noon. Pre-sale ticket prices for students are $5 and $10 for adults. On game day, students will still be able to purchase a $5 ticket while adults will be charged a $15 fee. For continuing information on the upcoming game, visit www.ucumberlands.edu/athletics.
