A former Laurel County Sheriff’s deputy has been indicted for allegedly stealing money from the department.
Brandon Broughton, who was terminated from his position with the sheriff’s department earlier this year, was named in a one-count indictment Friday for charges that allegedly occurred between January 2015 and May 2018.
The indictment alleges that Broughton unlawfully took over $10,000 in compensation for time not accrued, which was owned by the sheriff’s department.
The one and only count of the indictment charges Broughton with theft by unlawful taking of the value of $10,000 or more.
An indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury; it is not a conviction or an admission of guilt.
