The Laurel Grocery Company, in partnership with KentuckyOne Health Primary Care, broke ground Monday afternoon for an on-site employee health clinic set to open June 1.
As part of a new health initiative under the name “Connected Care,” the clinic will be located just outside the company’s main warehouse on the corner of Ky. 192 and Ky. 229 in London.
According to a press release from Laurel Grocery, the new facility hopes to “reduce health risks, eliminate wait times, offer a convenient location to employees, and improve the connection to primary care.” Services will be free of charge to employees participating in the company’s health and wellness program, as well as for their spouses and children.
“Laurel Grocery’s number one asset is its employees,” said Laurel Grocery owner and Vice Chairman Winston Griffin. “Through our Connected Care Clinic, we hope to help our employees and their families improve their health by making it more affordable, more accessible, and more convenient to do so. We are very excited to be able to make this available to our wonderful employees and their families.”
Griffin, along with London Mayor Troy Rudder, HR Director Shay Barton, CEO David Pearson, Steve Chesnut, Angie Patton of KentuckyOne Health, and Dr. Donald Bunch were all on site for the ground breaking.
Once open, Dr. Bunch, as well as a nurse practitioner and health education specialist, will be present at the clinic during its Monday, Wednesday, Friday operating hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. to serve Laurel Grocery employees. Flu vaccines, allergy treatment, physicals, and general wellness visits will all be available to participating employees.
“Right now, we have 235 employees working at our facility,” said Barton. “Including their spouses and children, we expect our team to serve about 425 different individuals.”
The new Connected Care Clinic is the first of its kind under KentuckyOne Health Primary Care, and it will serve as a blueprint for company-sponsored health clinics in the future.
Laurel Grocery is a family-owned wholesaler serving independent grocery retailers across eight states since 1922. The company will be turning to an incentive-based HAS insurance program where employees are rewarded based on meeting certain health benchmarks.
