A dead body was found in a creek about 1:30 p.m. Sunday and law enforcement believes it is that of a London man that had been missing since Wednesday.
A search team had been doing a ground search for missing London man Tony Gibson since Friday. The ground search was called off when the body was found Sunday afternoon, although a positive ID has yet to be made.
Gibson of Johnson Road had reportedly been missing since 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and was reported missing to Laurel County Sheriff's Office at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
On Friday a search team began searching for Gibson, 53, along Johnson Road.
Laurel County Sheriff's Office, London-Laurel Rescue Squad, Laurel County Emergency Management and the Cumberland Valley Mounted Search and Rescue Team were all taking part in the ground search.
According to Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy and Public Information Officer Gilbert Acciardo, family members stated that Gibson suffered from depression.
“That’s a heavily wooded area but family members said he was familiar with the area,” Acciardo said. “But when he didn’t come home, they were worried that he might have fallen or was hurt.”
An autopsy will be conducted in Frankfort on Monday to make a positive ID and attempt to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is continuing.
