Adam Hooker assumed a job as finance officer for East Bernstadt Independent School on October 29.

“I like my job very good,” Hooker said. “I like the people I’ll be working with here and everyone has made me feel right at home. I enjoy this type of work and I hopefully can get in here and work well with everyone and make some progress.”

Hooker resigned his position as financial analyst with the Knox County Schools to fill a vacancy left by Billie Smith, who retired after 28 years of service in the Laurel County and East Bernstadt school systems.

“She had about 28 and 1/2 years in and chose to retire,” Superintendent of East Bernstadt Independent School Homer Radford said. “He came to us having experience with the MUNIS accounting system that all school districts use in Kentucky. He came to us from Knox County where he had experience with that.”

“We are glad for Ms. Smith, we hated to see her go,” Radford added. “She had time in and decided to go ahead and retire. I feel like we’re very fortunate to have found Mr. Hooker, who has the experience with the system and kind of knows the ins and outs of it when he came to us.”

Hooker and his wife, Laura Brooklyn, were married last July and recently built a home in North Hills subdivision off North Main Street.

Adam Hooker grew up in the Bush Community and graduated from North Laurel High School. He is the son of Kim and the late Cecil Hooker.
